Employers
‘We were delighted with the quality of applicants this year and interviewed 15 people for the Apprenticeship programme. We had a number of applicants that attended our March event or heard of the vacancy through the Discover Risk website, which I hope you will agree is great news. We would be pleased to get involved in another Suffolk EBP event again and I look forward to working with the EBP again.’
Tim Larke, Director, Ryan Insurance
'We feel it’s important to build links with local education providers and young people- many of whom may potentially be our future recruits. It enables us to support young people through our employees, who also benefit from this experience. As well as mentoring we also offer support with other activities such as work experience, apprenticeships and highlighting construction as a career.’
Helen Clements, Recruitment Advisor, ISG Jackson, Ipswich
‘ISG Jackson is passionate about it's commitment to support education as it provides the means by which enthusiastic students have an interactive opportunity to understand the various roles within the construction industry. The relationship we have with schools is of mutual benefit too as it also gives us, as a business, the opportunity to highlight potential candidates for any future recruitment needs that we may have - and especially for apprentices in a wide range of roles.’
Helen Clements, Recruitment Advisor, ISG Jackson, Ipswich
‘Wates Construction is committed to promoting the Construction industry as an exciting place to work. An essential part of this process is engaging with Schools and Colleges and our Partnership with the EBP ensures that the support and advice we can give is delivered with greater impact because of their wide knowledge of local needs.’

‘Leiston High School has worked closely with the Suffolk Education Business Partnership over recent years. They have supported both the school staff and students in many ways, all closely linked to Work Related Learning.
Leiston High School has itself a strong commitment to Work Related Learning and Employer Engagement, and by working together, students have been able to access a variety of projects, workshops and activities that develop their employability skills and support their curriculum.
Working with the Suffolk Education Business Partnership, a group of people who share the school’s commitment to and enthusiasm for Work Related Learning and Employer Engagement, is one of the more positive aspects of my job.’
Jill Douglass, Employer Engagement, Leiston High School
'The Wex/Wrl Forums that Suffolk EBP host provide an excellent opportunity to meet with other schools and employers to share best practice and get new ideas on how to provide this valuable service to our students.’
Kevin Voller, Business and Community Liaison Officer, Debenham High School
‘Suffolk New College has good relationships with employers, some which go back over many years. The importance for those in education and training to engage with the business community is as important now as it has ever been, as we seek to ensure the skills that students gain whilst in vocational education are a match for the industries into which they progress into, whether this be as an apprentice or as an employee.’
Natalie Chaplin, Head of Automotive, Construction & Engineering Services, Suffolk New College
‘I just wanted to send a formal thank you to all those who were actively involved in the planning and delivery of the Construction in the Built Environment event here at Suffolk New College. To employers, staff and EBP, thank you for your contributions, this event couldn't have been delivered without your commitment and engagement, and your support was really appreciated by myself and by senior management at the college.
Feedback from schools, both teachers and pupils, has been very positive, and supports the continuation of this programme, and the roll-out of similar events across other subject areas…I know that some employers were keen to be more involved across the day (which is great, so thank you!).
Thank you once again for helping to promote construction and the built environment.’
Natalie Chaplin, Head of Automotive, Construction & Engineering Services, Suffolk New College
Young People
‘The opportunity to work towards a live event has given me a real insight into what it takes and will be very useful for my CV. I thought I might become a wedding planner, but my experience with the EBP has shown me how I can best use my knowledge and skills.’
Sarah Crockford, events management student, University Campus Suffolk
STEM Ambassador:
‘I really enjoy talking to young people and it has helped me to assess why I love my job. You never know who you might speak to at the age of 16, who then realises it’s what they want to do. Young people can also be a challenging audience, so it’s valuable presentation training for me too. Being a STEM Ambassador is very flexible as you can choose which events or activities you want to be involved with.’
STEM Ambassador, Laura Buckingham, Agronomist for Frontier Agriculture
‘I enjoy working with primary school children. It is like opening up a new world for them. The younger children seem so keen to learn especially when you carry out a little project such as K’Nex Challenge with them.’
STEM Ambassador Chris Norman, self employed project engineer
